Mobsoup.com mobile analytics for android, iphone, blackberry opens it’s doors to developers

Mobsoup, which is either a bizarre name for a mobster or an appetizer that tastes like cement shoes, has just released their “HUMANalytics” (mobile analytics) platform to developers. While it isn’t the first mobile analytics engine on the web (and probably won’t be the last), it offers at least one option that the others do not: the ability to download raw statistics so developers and software houses can perform their own analysis. Trends for the mobile market space show nothing but Everest-like upward sweeps for the next 5 years and the general consensus is that any venture involved in the mobile experience has room for even more competition.

Motorola Reveals Three New Android Smartphones in China

Motorola released two new Android smartphones for China on Monday, and announced details of another, as the company broadens its product offerings for the Chinese market.

Part of Motorola’s MING series, the new phones have touchscreen displays and can recognize Chinese characters traced on them.

The MT810 and A1680 are now available in some areas in China, priced at 5,980 renminbi (US$877) and 3,080 renminbi respectively, a company spokeswoman said.

The MT810 will be serviced by China Mobile, has a 3.2-inch screen and can display mobile TV broadcasts in China’s CMMB format. The phone also uses China Mobile’s OPhone 2.0 operating system, which is based on the Android 2.1 version.

The A1680 phone, built for China Unicom, runs Android version 1.6 and has a 3.1-inch display.

Verizon Rolls Out Android 2.2 to Droid Incredible

image

Verizon Wireless on Friday started to roll out Android 2.2, also known as “Froyo,” to HTC Droid Incredible phones.

The 93.7 MB update adds a ton of new features: it improves browser speed, adds Flash Player 10.1 to the browser, enables 720p high-definition video recording, turns on faster 802.11n Wi-Fi, and lets you use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot (for $20 extra per month), among other features.

The update makes the Incredible the fourth U.S. phone to get upgraded after the Google Nexus One, HTC EVO 4G for Sprint, and the Motorola Droid for Verizon Wireless. Verizon’s Motorola Droid X and Samsung’s Galaxy S phones, among others, are still waiting for Android 2.2 upgrades.

To download the update, go to Settings, About Phone, System Updates. The update may not appear to all users on Friday, because Verizon has a policy of pushing out updates to different groups of phones over several days’ time.

T-Mobile HSPA+ Android phone clears FCC

A smartphone with HSPA+ capabilities for T-Mobile has just passed through the Federal Communications Commission and this looks to be the much-heralded G2.

The device came through the FCC as the “HTC PC10100″ and it sports 802.11n WiFi, 3G for T-Mobile’s AWS bands and references to HSPA+. We know that T-Mobile has been pushing the G2 as the first smartphone with HSPA+.

We’ve also seen the T-Mobile G2 in the wild and the release date is expected over the next few weeks, so I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that this is the device that has just passed through the federal agency. The followup to the first Android handset should be a good sequel with its large touch screen, high-speed mobile data, modern design and more.

The Motorola Droid 2 Review

Motorola Droid 2 Overview

It may not be easy to discern the new Motorola Droid 2 from its first-generation sibling, the original Droid, but be assured that the latest Android device for Verizon Wireless has enough firepower lurking behind the scenes than one would surmise. First off, there’s more horsepower under the hood regarding processing and RAM. But the Motorola Droid 2 bursts out of the starting gates running Android 2.2 Froyo, meaning all aspects of interface performance have been improved. Along with the integration of Android’s latest interface, the Droid 2 boasts an improved battery life, which we tested, and improved internal storage memory. While we weren’t crazy about the Droid 2′s camera, this phone offered enough upgrades to take our original Droid experience to the next level.

Advanced Task Manager app maker makes $80,000 with Android app

Well, Arron La, maker of the Advanced Task Manager app has released some interesting data that suggests that, even with its problems, Android can make a decent amount of money for someone. No, it’s not crazy iPhone app money, but it’s a start.

La’s app helps preserve battery life by turning off running apps. The latest 2.2 update to Android prevents programs from turning off other apps so the program is generally useless now for the latest phones.

But it’s still interesting to see how much Task Manager has made since it launched in February 2009, with the opening of paid-apps in Android Market. From sales of his $1 paid app, La said he’s made $50,000 since then after Google’s 30 percent cut. He’s also made $29,000 from ads placed by AdMob.

Dell Aero Android Smartphone Arrives on AT&T

Dell introduced the Android-running Aero smartphone, calling it its first U.S. smartphone — a designation that puts the Streak in clear tablet terms. With an AT&T contract, the Aero is just $99.99.

The Dell Aero is now available on the AT&T network, Dell announced Aug. 24. The smartphone, which Dell is calling its first in the United States, runs version 1.6 of Google’s Android mobile operating system, also known as “Donut.” It’s priced at $100 with a two-year AT&T contract, or $300, via the Dell Web site without a contract.

The launch of the Aero follows the Aug. 13 debut o the Dell Streak — a “hybrid” device that in size and pricing is something of a large smartphone or a small tablet. The Streak is also available on the AT&T network, or unlocked at an unsubsidized price. With the Aero, however, there’s no second-guessing — it’s a smartphone all the way.

“The Dell Aero is built with a focus on style and performance to help people find new ways to connect with friends and express themselves socially, supported by the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network,” Ron Garriques, president of Dell Communications Solutions, said in a statement.
