It's a give and take though. We owe quite a bit of the market for smart phones to the popularity of the iPhone. Without the iPhone, Android phones might not catch on. Without Android phones, the Motorola Droid doesn't get made. Without the Droid, Apple has no reason to ever change it's behavior or improve the product.

I forget. What was I supposed to remember? ;)

Of course. But from a generic consumer perspective it could prove to be one of the best. One of the things I'm hopeful for is a drastically improved UI from the haxx0r community running on a rooted Droid. The UI is nice, clean, and apparently uncluttered, but I'm still a bit surprised that after 2+ years, the iPhone still has probably the best looking interface and interactivity.

Not at all. This was more from a perspective viewed through the eyes of the Droid advertising campaign and the initial hype. Frankly, having a mobile phone with the ability (probability?) of having it's OS updated with major updates is fantastic.

It won't take long for a dev to do an optimized build for the G1.

I think droid is very cool, but it's not the FIRST android phone - gotta remember that =D
